To celebrate the 27th anniversary of The Golden Girls, we're going to take a trip down memory lane today to visit Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia. The series began on September 14, 1985, and ran for seven seasons on NBC until May 9, 1992. And here are my 10 favorite episodes out of the 180 that were produced (in chronological order):
1) "A Little Romance" (Episode 13, Season 1 - December 14, 1985)
Dorothy and Blanche discover that Rose is dating a dwarf.
2) "Isn't It Romantic" (Episode 30, Season 2 - November 8, 1986)
Dorothy's lesbian friend Jean falls in love with Rose.
3) "A Piece of Cake" (Episode 50, Season 2 - May 9, 1987)
The girls recall past birthday celebrations, including Dorothy's encounter with Mr. Ha Ha.
4) "One for the Money" (Episode 53, Season 3 - September 26, 1987)
Rose does a memorable solo performance during a charity dance marathon.
5) "Scared Straight" (Episode 85, Season 4 - December 10, 1988)
Blanche's brother Clayton reveals that he is a homosexual.
6) "Valentine's Day" (Episode 91, Season 4 - February 11, 1989)
The girls decide to purchase some condoms for a romantic Valentine's Day cruise.
7) "An Illegitimate Concern" (Episode 120, Season 5 - February 12, 1990)
Sophia and Dorothy dress up as Sonny and Cher for a mother-daughter pageant.
8) "Sister of the Bride" (Episode 142, Season 6 - January 12, 1991)
Blanche's gay brother announces that he's getting married to his boyfriend.
9) "Goodbye, Mr. Gordon" (Episode 169, Season 7 - January 11, 1992)
Rose arranges for Dorothy and Blanche to appear on a talk show about lesbian relationships.
10) "Journey to the Center of Attention" (Episode 173, Season 7 - February 22, 1992)
Dorothy steals the spotlight with her singing at Blanche's favorite bar.
